Ricardo
Segovia
Jan 11, 1962 — Jun 3, 2026
Ricardo Segovia, 64, of Woodland, California, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Ricardo was born on January 11, 1962, in Pecos, Texas, to Juanita and Jose Segovia. At the age of 11, he moved with his family to Oxnard, California, where he would build the foundation of a life defined by dedication, perseverance, and love.
While attending high school, Ricardo met the love of his life, Socorro. Their relationship grew into a marriage that would span 43 years and serve as the cornerstone of a close-knit family. After graduating from high school, Ricardo earned his associate degree at Ventura College before being accepted to the University of California, Davis. As a proud founding member of Hermanos Macehuel, he balanced the demands of university life while raising a young family. With his wife and three children by his side, Ricardo earned his degree in Biological Sciences and settled in Woodland, California.
Driven by a desire to care for others, Ricardo went on to earn his nursing degree and began his healthcare career at Woodland Memorial Hospital. He later spent almost 30 years serving patients and families at NorthBay VacaValley Hospital. Continuing his education, he obtained a Master's degree in Nursing and Business Management from the University of Phoenix, which led to several years in hospital leadership as a director. Yet his true passion remained at the bedside. Before retiring, he returned to direct patient care, choosing to spend his final working years caring for critically ill patients on the ICU night shift.
Ricardo believed in working hard, playing hard, and relaxing hard. He was an avid reader and collector of Stephen King novels and always kept up with the latest Apple technology and gadgets. Retirement allowed him to fully embrace his creative side. He spent countless hours exploring arts and crafts - crocheting, writing, painting, attending craft fairs, and learning new skills through YouTube tutorials.
Ricardo was a true foodie who never passed up the opportunity to try a new restaurant or experiment with a new recipe. He found great joy in baking and sharing his creations with family and friends. His tradition of making Mexican wedding cookies from a secret family recipe handed down by his mother became a treasured holiday favorite, while his lemon blueberry cake and rosemary bread earned legendary status among those lucky enough to enjoy them.
Among Ricardo's many interests was a lifelong love of bowling. A dedicated league bowler in his younger years, he spent many happy years on the lanes until an injury forced him to step away from the sport. Though he could no longer play, his enthusiasm never faded, and he passed along his appreciation for the game to his children and grandchildren.
Movies and television were among Ricardo's favorite pastimes. He especially enjoyed action, science fiction, and horror films, and cherished family movie nights complete with buttered popcorn. He was always eager for casino concert nights, where good music, adult beverages, and slot machines made for memorable evenings.
Travel brought Ricardo great joy. Over the years, he explored Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico with his family. He held a special love for Lake Tahoe and never passed up an opportunity to visit a Disney park. The memories made on those adventures will remain treasured by those who shared them with him.
Above all, Ricardo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, colleague, and friend. His warmth, humor, intelligence, creativity, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Ricardo is survived by his mother and stepfather, Juanita and Jesus Soto; his stepmother, Berta Segovia; his siblings, Jeffrey Segovia and Stephanie Gomez; his beloved wife of 43 years, Socorro Segovia; his children, Vanessa Rodriguez, Crystal Segovia, and Gabe Segovia; his son-in-law, Timothy Rodriguez; and his cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth, Desiree, and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Segovia, and his sister, Isabel Christine "Chavela" Hernandez.
